Privacy Policy

Playeng (“we”, “us”) operates playeng.app and the Playeng Android app. For any privacy question or request, contact hello@playeng.app.

We use one essential cookie: the sign-in session cookie that keeps you logged in. We do not use advertising, tracking or analytics cookies, and we do not share any cookie data with third parties.

We also store a few preferences in your browser’s own storage, which never leaves your device and is not readable by us:

• playeng_lang — whether you are reading Playeng in English or Bangla.
• playeng_tts_voice — your preferred practice voice.
• playeng_last_email — the email address on the sign-in screen, so you do not retype it.
• Unsaved work — a local copy of a writing draft and the test you currently have open, so a refresh does not lose them.

Clearing your browser data removes all of these. Signing out clears the session cookie.

We collect only what the product needs to work:

• Account details — your name, email address, and an optional phone number. Your email is your sign-in name, and we send a one-time code to it to verify the address when you sign up or reset your password. We also use it for account emails.
• Profile picture — only if you upload one.
• Voice recordings — when you take a speaking test or use a speaking practice tool, your answers are recorded and uploaded so they can be transcribed and scored. See “Voice recordings” below.
• Text you write — writing-test essays, answers, and messages you send to the AI tutor.
• Learning activity — your test results, band scores, streaks, saved words and study plan.
• Technical and crash data — basic device and error information used to diagnose faults.

We do not collect your contacts, location, calendar, photos (beyond a profile picture you choose), or any advertising identifier.

Speaking practice only works if we can hear you, so this deserves to be spelled out. When you record an answer:

• The recording is uploaded to our storage and kept privately — it is not public and not shared with other learners.
• It is sent to speech services to produce a transcript and a pronunciation assessment, which is what generates your score and feedback.
• You can play your own recordings back on your results page.
• Deleting your account deletes your recordings.

The microphone is only used while you are actively recording an answer, and the app asks for permission first. It is never used in the background.

Playeng has leaderboards. If you appear on one, other learners can see your name and score — nothing else. Your recordings, essays, tutor conversations, email address and phone number are never visible to other users.

We use a small number of providers to run the service. They process data on our behalf and under contract — we do not sell or share your data for anyone else’s independent purposes.

• Neon — hosts our database (your account and learning data).
• Vercel Blob — stores audio files, including your recordings.
• OpenAI — transcribes speaking answers and generates scoring, feedback and tutor replies from your text and audio.
• Microsoft Azure AI Speech — produces the pronunciation assessment from your speaking recordings.
• Resend — delivers account emails such as your sign-in code.
• Sentry — collects crash and error reports so we can fix faults. It is configured not to attach personal information to reports.

Account and learning data is kept for as long as your account exists, because your progress history is the product. Crash reports are kept for a limited diagnostic period. When you delete your account, we delete your data as described below.

You can delete your account and its data at any time, from inside the app or on the web, under Settings → Account. Full instructions — including what is removed and how to ask by email — are on the account deletion page.

All traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Passwords are stored hashed, never in plain text. Recordings are stored privately and served only to you, through an authenticated request.

Playeng is intended for people aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email us and we will remove it.

You can ask us to show you a copy of your data, correct it, or delete it. Email hello@playeng.app from the address on your account and we will respond within 30 days.

If we change this policy materially, we will update the date at the top and, where the change is significant, tell you in the app.
